ALICE BOYD
I am an accredited CBT counsellor with experience of working with a broad range of clients and problems, including low mood, low self-esteem, anxiety, OCD, panic, and social anxiety.
“WE ARE MORE OFTEN FRIGHTENED THAN HURT; AND WE SUFFER MORE FROM IMAGINATION THAN FROM REALITY”
― LUCIUS ANNAEUS SENECA
A famous psychologist once said that all his clients had one thing in
common: they didn't feel they were good enough.
Scientists believe that your brain has a built-in ‘negativity bias’. In other words, as we evolved
over millions of years, it was a lot more important to notice and react to threats
than it was to pleasurable experiences.
Having brains that are Velcro for bad experiences and Teflon for good experiences helps explain why, despite evidence to the contrary (and the reassurances of friends and family) we can feel less safe,
less worthy, less lovable and/or less capable than we actually are.
As a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, I work collaboratively with clients, typically over six to twelve sessions,
to help them make sense of their distress and understand how their current thinking
and the ways in which they cope can keep the problem going.
Ultimately, I aim to enable clients to meet their chosen goals and to become their own therapist so that
they can move forward with their lives feeling more resourced and secure.
